Monet Inspired Oil Pastel Class

Oil pastels have always been an incredibly interesting and fun medium for me because they are the perfect mix of oil painting and colored pencils - I like to call them adult crayons. They are easy to transport, don’t require a lot of additional supplies, and are super creamy which makes them perfect for blending and creating dreamy texture and dimension.

These qualities make them perfect for teaching a beginner class, which I did at These Hands Maker’s Collective on May 20th. The theme was Monet-inspired impressionism, and with the best group of artists — we learned about basic oil pastel techniques and Monet’s style and color palette before diving into the world of lily pads and impressionistic landscapes.

I was seriously blown away by the gorgeous artwork created by the class of students. Take a look below! 👇
